CMPForum Online Seminars

Current Seminars

Currently, there are no online video seminars available. But, soon we will offer our first online seminar for forum members.

What are CMPForum online seminars?

The CMPForum offers a unique online community experience by providing an opportunity for community members to share professional, educational seminars that they create with other members. These online video seminars are hosted on the CMPForum's high-bandwidth, dedicated server. The CMPForum creates a unique webpage for the member's seminar and a mechanism for processing attendee payment.

How much do online seminars cost?

It depends on the length of the seminar. In general, a 20-minute seminar costs $30 and a 45-minute seminar cost $50. In some cases, a seminar may cost more due to the nature of the material or the expertise of the presenter.

Who keeps the fee?

The collected fees are shared equally between the CMPForum and the member who creates the seminar. We use the fees to help support the overhead costs of running this community.

How can I offer an online seminar?

If you would like to offer an online video seminar, you have three options:

• Shoot and edit your own seminar

• Hire a professional production company to produce the seminar

• Attend one of the CMPForum's semi-annual seminar workshops where our professional videographers will shoot your seminar, edit the video into a useable product, and encode it for web delivery. If you are interested in this option, please email us.

Does it cost to host an online seminar with the CMPForum community?

Yes. We charge a one-time flat fee on $100 for each seminar you host through this service. This helps to defray our costs of creating a unique (but very simple) seminar webpage, uploading the media content to our streaming server, and performing periodic maintenance on the server. For the $100 fee, your seminar will be hosted for 4 months. If you wish to relist your seminar, we will charge a relisting fee of $35.

What video formats do you accept?

The CMPForum only accepts QuickTime video files for hosting on its streaming media server. We prefer QuickTime version 6 since QT7 is not widely adopted yet. Also, your files must be hinted for streaming. Video size, data rates, compression engines and the sort must be carefully chosen as your attendees may not have the time nor patience for a slow response. If you are unfamiliar with QuickTime encoding, then either hire a professional production company or attendee one of our semi-annual seminar workshops. We're sorry, but we cannot spend the time teaching video production and web encoding.

Also, we suggest making your file available for high-bandwidth users only. Although this does cut out those users who are still using dial-up access, a modem-based user will not have a good viewing experience anyway since seminars are at least 20 minutes in length.
